Russel Brewery had this empty space destined for a tasting room on their hands for quite some time, but the partners couldn’t agree on a design or vision until we came in to assist. This is why you will see the neon sign above the door stating “Good things take time”. Our clients wanted a tropical, almost tiki-like aesthetic for their tasting room, equipped with a small kitchen to make tacos, a brewery service bar area, seating for clients and a retail area. The small space provided a challenge to fit all functional requirements into its floor plan. A bench along the window allowed us to squeeze in 4 more tables that would have been difficult to fit otherwise, and we were able to add simple pipe shelving to create the retail area near the front entry to greet customers as they enter. A trophy display wall around the corner was created to showcase the many awards that Russell Brew has earned, which can easily be seen by customers as they exit the washroom. We wanted to make the washrooms an experience for customers – complete with bright tropical wallpaper and cute neon signage. The use of a white angled slat wall near the bar allowed us to add privacy for the small taco kitchen and hide the mess while still allowing the area to feel open. We carefully selected colours to not take away from the red Russell branding or their graphic cans. Our scope for this project ranged from permit submission to furniture selection.
